- 12 months of award window, ending July 31 of the award year
- 0 dollars buys an award. It is not for sale.
Main awards
The awards
A category’s main award aggregates every review theme: quality, price, delivery, service, ordering. The individual theme awards live on each category’s award page.
What stands behind it
Awards anyone can verify
Citatio collects an industry’s public reviews from multiple portals: Trustpilot, Trusted Shops, the App Store, Google Play and more. Every review is captured verbatim, deduplicated, and matched by text analysis to a product and to themes with sentiment.
From that, yearly awards are derived per product category and country. Every award page discloses all providers’ scores, the data basis and the formula, and the associated product comparison quotes the original reviews verbatim with sources.
The methodology
How a winner is determined
-
Time window
Each year’s award covers the 12 months ending July 31. Older reviews are excluded: the award measures current performance, not past reputation.
-
Product matching
Only reviews concerning the awarded product count. A photo-calendar review never decides a photo-book award.
-
Eligibility floors
Listed from 5 reviews. Winning requires at least 25 product reviews (theme awards: at least 15 mentions). At least 3 providers must clear the floors.
-
Significance gap
No clear lead over the runner-up, no award. Several categories have no winner for exactly this reason: that is by design, not a gap.
The data basis
What goes in, and what stays out
Goes in
- Public reviews from third-party portals, captured verbatim
- Text-based theme and sentiment analysis of every review
- Country-specific portal sources plus global app-store sources
- Deduplicated canonical reviews: each counts exactly once
Stays out
- Reviews outside the 12-month window
- Duplicates and reviews hidden as spam
- Content written or edited by us: there is none
- Payments, customer status, submissions: zero influence

The methodology in detail
Frequently asked questions
What is a Citatio Award?
A yearly, purely data-derived award per product category and country, computed from public customer reviews on third-party portals. There is no jury and no application; the computation is deterministic and disclosed on every award page.
What time period is evaluated?
The 12 months ending July 31 of the award year. The 2026 award is therefore based on reviews from August 2025 through July 2026. This makes the award measure current performance rather than historical reputation.
What data is used?
Public customer reviews from portals such as Trustpilot, Trusted Shops, the App Store and Google Play. Every review is stored verbatim, deduplicated, and matched by text analysis to a product and to themes (quality, price, delivery, service, ordering) with sentiment.
What is excluded?
Reviews outside the time window, duplicates, reviews hidden as spam, and reviews that cannot be matched to the awarded product. Star ratings without text count toward the average rating but never toward theme awards: we do not fabricate sentiment from a star count.
How does the main award work?
The main award is the average positive share across all review themes in which a provider clears the mention floor. Winning requires enough data in at least 3 themes and at least 25 product reviews overall.
Why do some categories have no award?
When fewer than 3 providers clear the eligibility floors, or the gap between first and second place is not significant, no award is given on purpose. An award without a solid data basis would be worthless.
How are country awards scoped?
Per country, the country-tagged portal sources count (for example Trusted Shops Switzerland) plus global app-store sources. Switzerland, Germany and Austria are computed separately; global categories carry no country scope.
Can an award be bought or influenced?
No. There is nothing to submit and nothing to pay. Whether a provider is a Citatio customer has zero influence: the computation runs identically for every provider over the same public data.
How can I verify an award?
Every award page discloses all providers’ scores, the data basis and the methodology. Embedded badges always link back to this validation page. The associated product comparison quotes the original reviews verbatim with sources.
How often is it recalculated?
The award window closes every year on July 31; that year’s awards are computed afterwards. The underlying review data is collected and analyzed continuously.
